The official announcement of the Sustainable Tourism Awards winners awarded by Skål International has taken place on Thursday 18 October 2018 during the Opening Ceremony of the 79th Skål World Congress held at the PrideInn Paradise Plus Beach Hotel, Convention Centre & Spa in Mombasa, Kenya. 

This year, a total of 62 entries from 31 different categories have competed in eight categories.

These awards have enjoyed growing success since their launch 17 years ago following the United Nations declaration of 2002 as the Year of Ecotourism and the Mountains. With the exponential growth in tourism over the past few decades, the tremendous strain has been put on the tourism industry as a whole so it is imperative that all sectors of the industry adhere to all aspects of sustainable tourism.

Skål International is an Affiliate Member of the UNWTO whose mission is to promote the development of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. We have adopted the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics in Tourism, and also support the ST-EP initiative (Sustainable Tourism-Eliminating Poverty). Skål is affiliated to other important international organisations such as PATA, IIPT, The Code, ECPAT, ICTP, STI.
